We’re excited to introduce Gordon Ogden, a teacher who recently joined our Buddha Bella Healing Center community. With over 12 years of teaching experience in the valley, Gordon is a mentor and guide to countless entrepreneurs, yogis, athletes, and intentional beings. He’s shared his passion and wisdom across the globe, and we’re so grateful to have him as part of our community.
Gordon’s yoga journey began nearly 20 years ago, and what started as a passion quickly transformed into a practice and ultimately a way of being. With a deep connection to physical expression, he’s spent his life using yoga as a tool to connect with the world around him. Gordon now lives in Phoenix with his wife Holly, their daughter Willow, and their two dogs, Maude and Milli.
Gordon teaches Hot Vinyasa Flow every Wednesday at 7 AM. Get to know him more below:
Q: What is your first and last name?
A: Gordon Ogden
Q: How long have you been practicing yoga?
A: 25 years
Q: If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
A: Thai Food! Specifically Coconut Soup, Mango Sticky Rice, and Thai Tea.
Q: What is your favorite yoga pose and why?
A: Eight Angle Pose / Astavakrasana - I love the overall shape of this pose and the "thinker" variation.
Q: What style(s) of yoga do you specialize in?
A: Vinyasa and Hatha
Q: What is a fun fact about you that most people don't know?
A: I enjoy playing the didgeridoo, specifically the benefits of circular breathing.
Q: What is your favorite part about teaching yoga?
A: I love sharing the gift of yoga. It’s had a huge impact on my life as an active rock climber and outdoor athlete. It’s kept me durable as I’ve gotten older.
Q: What is your advice for someone new to yoga?
A: Don’t quit. Rest. The benefits of this practice will reach far and wide throughout your life for years to come.
Q: If you could swap lives with anyone for a day, who would it be and why?
A: Rock climber Alex Honnold. His ability to climb difficult routes without a rope for safety is very inspiring to me as a rock climber.
Q: If you were a yoga pose, which one would you be and why?
A: Eka Pada Koundinyasana 2 - “Flying Splits.” An arm balance pose I’ve always loved and was inspired by early on in my yoga journey.
Q: Do you have a favorite quote or mantra that you live by?
A: "Nam Myoho Renge Kyo" - devotion to the mystic law of cause and effect through the vibration of sound.
